DAU HOT TOPIC FORUM

"Naval Probability of Program Success (NPoPS)"

Wednesday, February 24, 2010

11:30 AM - 1:00 PM

Packard Center, Fort Belvoir, VA

The DAU Alumni Association, the DAU School of Program Managers and the DAU Acquisition Community Connection are co-sponsoring this Hot Topic Forum focusing on the Department of the Navy approach to the Probability of
Program Success methodology and toolset.

The presentation will focus on how the Naval PoPS methodology provides a means to measure current program health, risks, or issues that could adversely impact successful program execution.  While there is a PoPs
program in the other services as well, Naval PoPS version 1 was developed and released in October 2008 and has been used successfully for Navy and Marine Corps "Gate Reviews", as well as any time program health is discussed.  Naval PoPS version 2 is in the process of being jointly approved for implementation by the Navy and Marine Corps and will be covered in the presentation.  Enhancements over version 1 include new scoring methodology, database tool functionality, as well as the addition of the new Technology Protection Metric.  This presentation is especially pertinent in view of the current Office of SecDef initiative to possibly move toward some standardization of the PoPS tool across the services.

The guest speaker is Mr. Ricardo Cabrera, Deputy Chief Systems Engineer, Office of the Assistant Secretary of the Navy (Research, Development and Acquisition).  Mr. Cabrera has extensive experience in implementing
information technology programs within the Department of the Navy.

The Forum is open to all DAU staff, faculty and students, defense industry professionals (Alumni Association associates have highest priority), Office of the SecDef staff, and government acquisition employees.  The Forum is
part of the DAU Staff and Faculty Enrichment Program and also provides one Continuous Learning Point (CLP) towards meeting continuous learning requirements for government acquisition certification.  To register and reserve a seat for this no-cost learning and development event, please register by providing the following information via an e-mail to acc@dau.mil <mailto:acc@dau.mil>  NLT COB Monday, February 22, 2010.
