DAU HOT TOPIC FORUM
– Wednesday, 12 March 2008
(1130-1300 in Packard Conference Center on DAU Ft Belvoir
Campus)
The Hot Topic Forum is
titled:
Comparing Military and Commercial Innovation.
The session will address – from the speaker’s perspective -
how military innovation differs fundamentally from
innovation in the civilian economy, and how a deeper
understanding of those differences is the prerequisite for
better policies and practices. The presentation will help
explain why recurrent suggestions for acquisition reform
have not been more productive. The presentation will be
about 1 hour, with 30 minutes available (if needed) for a
Q&A session at the end. This training opportunity provides
an important perspective for DAU staff and faculty, Office
of SecDef Staff, as well as for DoD and industry acquisition
personnel generally.
The presentation will be
given by Dr. John A. Alic, a widely recognized expert who
writes and consults on public policy issues related to
technology and science. His book
Trillions for Military Technology: How the Pentagon
Innovates and Why It Costs So Much appeared
in 2007. Dr. Alic has taught at several universities, most
recently as an adjunct faculty member at the Johns Hopkins
School of Advance International Studies.
The presentation slides
will be made available to the acquisition workforce at large
(DoD and Industry) on the Acquisition Community Connection
